After a long wait, we are very, very excited to say that we will be re-opening our doors once again on Monday 12th April. Come and join us this summer for an open-air drink and dining experience in the heart of Leeds city centre.

After our first batch of dates sold in record time, we are releasing the next lot at 9am on Friday 5th March. We expect demand to be huge again, so remember to set those alarms.

Yours & our safety

How will you manage the risk of Covid-19?

The venue and table layout will ensure that social distancing can be maintained throughout your stay – meaning you’ll have your own space, to catch up with your friends and family!

Here are some of the things we’ll have in place to keep you, and us, safe:

  • All staff are fully trained on our Covid-19 operations and procedures
  • Pre-booked tables to ensure that different groups are kept separate and that all tables are 2m apart from each other
  • Hand sanitizer will be readily available throughout the site, with stations on arrival and also at the toilets. There are also hand wash facilities on site.
  • Our booking system will allow for staggered entry and exit
  • The ability to purchase food and drink from your table with our own easy-to-use web app that can be used in your browser, so there’s no need to download! 
  • We’re a cashless venue, so you’ll be able to pay with contactless, Apple Pay, Google Pay, CHIP and PIN etc.
  • Thorough cleaning of every table, using our strict hygiene procedures, once a group leaves to ensure the table is safe and ready for the next group
  • Thorough and regular cleaning processes by every food trader and staff member at Chow Down
  • All serving staff will be wearing face coverings and will practice regular handwashing. Face coverings will also be available for all guests on request.
  • We are a seated venue and will be operating table service for food and drink throughout your stay
  • Our booking system will record track and trace and will be stored for 21 days in accordance with the guidance. Details may be shared with the NHS, if required.

General

Where are you located?

You can find us at Temple Arches, which is just a 5 minute walk from Leeds train station and located next to some of Leeds’ finest pubs and bars, such as The Cross Keys and Northern Monk Refectory, who will be welcoming to any single household groups from mid-May.

We also have secure bike racks for anyone who cycles.

When are you open?

Do you have heaters?

Yes – we have heaters on site to keep you warm during those chilly evenings.

What if it rains?

The majority of Chow Down is undercover, apart from our outdoor terrace seating area (new for 2021!). You will be able to select whether you want covered or uncovered seating when you book.

Are dogs allowed?

Chow Down is dog friendly! You can bring your four legged friends but we do require all dogs to remain on leads and on the floor (so unfortunately no sitting on chairs and tables that other guests will be using later in the day).

We’ll also be bringing our dog station with us, providing them with water and treats.

How do I get there?

Temple Arches is very central. We’re just a 5-10 minute walk from Leeds train station and the city centre. Handily, we’re also just off the Leeds-Liverpool canal – perfect if you want to join us by cycling.

Can I bring my kids?

Chow Down is family friendly, so you can bring your little ones until 6.45pm – please ensure you book a session that doesn’t fall mostly later than that time. For example, a session booked for 4.45-7.45pm is fine, however, a session booked at 6.30-9.30pm is not.

Arrival

Do I have to arrive at a certain time? 

Yes – all bookings will have an allocated arrival time and groups must arrive together. This is to ensure that we can manage the capacity, so that social distancing can be effectively practiced. 

How will we find our table? 

On arrival you’ll be met by our friendly meet and greet team who will guide you through to your table and then explain how to order your food and drinks on our app – our waiting team will provide full table service throughout your stay (so no queueing!) 

Once seated at your table, please refrain from mixing with other groups, in order to maintain our social distancing commitment.

Bookings

Do I have to book or can I just walk up on the day?

All tables have to be pre-booked, but this will give you peace of mind that you’ll have a table that can seat your whole group in a safe manner when you arrive. All slots last for three hours.

All bookings will be granted entry with an e-ticket, which can be shown either on a print out or on your phone. 

Once our team has sat you down at your table, all you have to do is order your food and drink from the app, as and when – so you can sit back, relax and enjoy Chow Down.

What happens if I am late for my slot?

To support us and ensure that we can practice social distancing, please arrive on time and together with your whole group. This will keep you and everyone else safe and also means that you don’t miss out on your crucial eating and drinking time!

As we’re operating much like a restaurant, with timed bookings, we can’t hold tables for any longer than half an hour after the allocated slot begins.

What does pre-booking get me?

Pre-booking ensures that you have a table secured for an allocated three hour slot.

All bookings include a complimentary drink per person that arrives, as well as a reserved table for your couple/group, table service and access to our range of amazing independent street food traders and entertainment. Prices and entry drinks differ depending on the event, but these will be clearly listed in the ticket description when you buy them. You can also find more details on our social media pages.

Due to our table seating plan, designed with social distancing in mind, all bookings are to be made in either groups of 2, 4 or 6. If you are a group of 3 or 5, just book either a group of 4 or 6 ticket. We cannot allow groups of more than 6 to be seated together. All bookings must be made in accordance with government guidelines – this means all bookings are made to either the rule of six, or maximum of two households – these guidelines are due to change from 17th May.

We also have snug booths with cushioned seating, which can hold up to 6 people. These are only allocated in groups of up to 6. Smaller groups are free to book our snug booths.

Can we upgrade our booking?

If your session has sold out, then unfortunately we cannot upgrade due to social distancing guidelines. Please check our ticketing page to see if your session has sold out.

In this instance, we may be able to accommodate closer to the time, should we have any ticket returns. Please wait until the week prior to your booking to contact us again.

If your session is not sold out, please contact us on Facebook or Instagram and we will see if there are any tables available for the number you require. If there are, we will refund you and then ask you to re-book.

Food & Drink

How do we order food and drinks?

You will be able to order in an app that will launch within your mobile’s web browser , so no need to download anything! You will need an internet connection on your own device to access this, however.

Just scan the QR code on your table with your smartphone camera and then order your food/drinks from the menu that pops up.

A member of our waiting team will then bring your order to your allocated table. Easy!

Can we order at the bar?

To ensure the safety of everyone, there will be no orders taken at the bar. Again, all drinks can be ordered through the app and served to you!

Can we pay by cash or is it cashless?

Chow Down will be totally cashless, so we’ll be taking all transactions through our app – you’ll be able to pay via your card, Apple Pay, Google Pay and Paypal.

What are your Terms and Conditions?

By booking a table you have accepted these Terms and Conditions together with all other terms and conditions found in our FAQ’s on our website which are subject to change from time to time.

Bookings are available for tables that can accommodate 2, 4 or 6 persons. If you book a table for 2 people, the maximum number of guests that will be permitted entry under that booking is 2 (including children). If you book a table for 4 people, the maximum number of guests that will be permitted entry under that booking is 4 (including children). If you book a table for 6 people, the maximum number of guests that will be permitted entry under that booking is 6 (including children).

Each person that arrives receives a complimentary drink – entry drinks will differ depending on the event. These will be clearly listed in the ticket description when you buy them.

Groups must arrive together and on time presenting a valid e-ticket. If you arrive without a valid e-ticket, we reserve the right to deny entry and you will not be entitled to a refund.

You will be required to use a mobile device application on your own device to purchase food and drinks.

All bookings are non-transferable and non-refundable. If, after you have booked, you cannot attend the event, you will not be entitled to a refund and will not be able to move your booking.

If the event is altered or cancelled by us for reasons outside of our control, for example due to extreme weather or because of government restrictions, you will be offered a booking on an alternative date and will not be entitled to a refund.

Each booking must include at least 1 adult aged 18 or over. If your party arrives without an adult aged 18 or over, you will be denied entry and will not be entitled to a refund. Children are the responsibility of your booking party at all times, we expect children to adhere to our social distancing rules.

We reserve the right to deny entry (or eject) all guests under any booking if any person within that booking behaves in a way that our staff consider disorderly or disruptive, or if our social distancing rules are not followed. In this instance nobody within your booking would be entitled to any refund.
